WoodWick

The Story Of WoodWick
WoodWick began as a division of the Virginia Candle Company in 2006. The company took its existing scents and combined added a crackling, wooden wick. Thus, the first WoodWick candle was born.
From there the company continued to improve and expand its offered scents. The world quickly fell in love with the full sensory experience of the crackling wick paired with the complex scents of WoodWick candles.
In 2010, WoodWick released an instant classic to the scene, the WoodWick Trilogy candles. These candles combined three scents into one jar for a unique experience as the scents burn individually and then blend over time.
Wooden wicks were the heart of the WoodWick brand, and in 2014 the company released a new candle that expanded on the innovation; the Hearthwick candle. These oval candles had long wicks that created a curtain of crackling flame along them, adding more dimension to the burning experience for customers.
In 2017 the company was purchased by the well-known Yankee Candle Company. Yankee Candle started back in 1969 and in the decades that followed had become a huge name in the candle industry. With the joint popularity of WoodWick and Yankee Candle combined, WoodWick Candle became an even stronger name in the home fragrance industry.
Additionally, if someone were to search for “WoodWick candles near me”, they now had a plethora of Woodwick Candle outlets and WoodWick Candle sales to shop, as WoodWick brand candles were added to Yankee Candles stores nationwide.
Today, you can get all your favorite Yankee Candle WoodWick scents in everything from WoodWick petite candles to ellipse candles, and traditional large jars. For those looking for flameless fragrances, you can buy WoodWick wax melts, WoodWick diffusers, and even WoodWick car fragrance tools.
From a crackling candle to a beloved candle empire, WoodWick has had a storied history and an optimistic outlook for the future.

Our Favorite WoodWick Candles
It can be a challenge to buy WoodWick candles online, especially if you aren’t familiar with the scents offered. However, we’ve collected a few of the most popular WoodWick candle scents that you cannot go wrong with.
One of the best WoodWick candles, according to our customers, is the WoodWick Fireside candle. This has been one of our top sellers for years and we can’t say we’re surprised. The Fireside scent is a blend of amber, bergamot, oak, vetiver, and musk. This rich scent makes Fireside one of the most popular Yankee Candle fall scents.
Another of our best fall candles is the WoodWick Pumpkin Butter candle. This large WoodWick candle features a warm pumpkin scent with notes of almond, cinnamon, clove, maple, and vanilla. The combination makes it one of our favorite fall scented candles and the perfect gift for pumpkin lovers!
If you’re looking for winter candles, the WoodWick Cinnamon Chai and WoodWick Frasier Fir are our two favorites. Cinnamon Chai blends fruity scents with cinnamon, cloves, and heliotrope. This unique blend of aromatic herbs and sweetness is a must-have and is the perfect complement to other traditional winter scents.
Frasier Fir is one such complementary scent, with notes of fir needles, eucalyptus, cypress, cedar, and cloves. This complex scent gives a burst of nostalgia for anyone who has ever been to a Christmas tree farm in the midst of winter. The sharp notes bring you back to that burst of cold winter air while the warm, aromatic notes balance and smooth this scent into something perfect for any home.
When spring comes, the Vanilla Bean scent is perfection, and in our humble opinion, the best WoodWick candle in the Vanilla Bean scent is the Vanilla Bean Hearthwick candle. All WoodWick Hearthwick candles feature an oval design with an elongated wick so it crackles even more like a fireplace than the traditional single-wick candles.
Finally, if you need a candle to transport you to the midst of summer, no matter what time of year it is, look no farther than the WoodWick Coastal Sunset candle. This blend of coconut, citrus, jasmine, vanilla, and musk is essentially summer in a jar.
We could easily spend hours going through our entire stock of WoodWick candles and not run out of good things to say about each scent. However, these are by far our favorites. Head over to the WoodWick page to find yours.

Why We Love Them
There is a lot to love about WoodWick candles. After all, they became a ubiquitous aspect of home fragrance for a reason. We’re going to break it down to our three favorite things about WoodWick candles.
That Crackle
The crackling wooden candle wick not only gave WoodWick its name but also is the core of what makes them so popular. WoodWick candles give customers a full sensory experience, from the potent scents to their crackling wicks and dancing flames.
Why does the crackle matter though?
The short answer: it’s relaxing. Many people call WoodWick candles portable fireplaces, and find the crackle and dancing candlelight incredibly relaxing. Unwinding in front of a fire not feasible for you? Just light your WoodWick scented candle, grab a drink, and let your stress melt away.
Versatile Design
Falling in love with a candle is easier when it looks good on the shelf. Many candle companies spend ages creating the perfect vessel for their candles ensuring they fit a specific aesthetic. Rustic, modern, traditional, you can find a candle that fits into any aesthetic.
For WoodWick, however, the goal was to create a candle that would fit into any home. To this end, they created a simple and timeless design for their candles. The WoodWick large hourglass jar candles are the perfect example of this. The shape is clean and the simple glass design will fit seamlessly into any decor scheme. What’s not to love about such a versatile candle?
Perfect Scents
When it comes to candles, the scent is obviously one of the most, if not the most, important aspect. Making candles too strong can create scents that no one wants to burn, and the same with weak scents.
WoodWick scents are well-known to be powerful enough to fill rooms in minutes, but not so strong that they will give people headaches or become overwhelming.
Additionally, WoodWick has a wide variety of scents that have quickly become fan favorites. These scents, like Woodwick White Teak, Fireside, and Humidor are favorites because they are complex with layers of different notes that are incredibly unique.
Each year, WoodWick releases new scents for spring, summer, fall, and winter, while maintaining fan favorites. The ability to come back for your favorite candles while also getting new themed candles each season keeps customers (and us) coming back for more.
FAQs
Why do Woodwick candles crackle?
WoodWick candles crackle due to the wooden wick, but why? A cotton wick is, as the name implies, made of cotton. Because it is a thin, soft material, it doesn’t make any noise as it burns.
Wood, on the other hand, is a denser material filled with cellulose that expands as it burns, making the distinct crackle and pop sound.
How do you light a WoodWick candle?
Generally, WoodWick candles light the same way traditional candles do. However, one exception is the Hearthwick and Ribbonwick candles which have long wicks. To light these, you want to hold your match or lighter to the wick and gently drag it along the wick to ensure that all parts of it are lit.
Do you trim WoodWick candles?
Yes! It’s very important to keep your wooden wicks trimmed to ⅛ of an inch. The easiest way to do this is to use a wick trimmer. Wick trimmers are the best because they have a horizontal blade, so you can get a totally even trim on wicks, wooden and otherwise!
How long do WoodWick candles last?
This depends on the size and style of the candle. WoodWick candles are known for burning slightly faster than traditional candles. The reason for this is the very thing that makes them so popular: the wooden wick.
However, despite burning slightly quicker than a cotton wick candle, they all have good solid lifespans that will allow you to enjoy them for weeks with ease. Here’s a breakdown of the burn time of each of WoodWick’s candles.

Are WoodWick candles soy?
WoodWick uses a soy blend wax. While this does make WoodWick soy candles, they are not 100% soy, but rather a soy-blend. WoodWick doesn’t state what their ratios are, so we don’t know exactly how much of the wax is soy vs. paraffin.
