Fun Facts:
  • It is said that the 19th century cartoonist, Thomas Nast, was the first to envision Santa Claus living at the North Pole. He created a series of drawings for Harper's Weekly depicting a jolly Santa living in Santa Clausville, North Pole.
  • Nast also brought about the imagery of Santa and Mrs. Claus living happily in the North.
  • In the feature "Santa Claus and His Works" Nast illusrated Santa with a workshop of toys, watching from a telescope, decorating a Christmas Tree, sewing dolls by hand and writing a naughty and nice ledger.
  • Thomas Nast's vision of Santa Claus solidified a uniquely American version of the story that is still celebrated today.
