Orleans Large Bowl by Simon Pearce
An innovation in handcrafted glass blowing, Orleans bowls are made distinct with their wide ripples and opulent forms. Tremendous skill goes into maintaining the voluminous texture of this glassware; their striking bases and magnificent optics refract light brilliantly. The large bowl is sized for gatherings of friends and family and is ideal for holding fanciful desserts like trifle or fresh picked salad greens.
A modern twist on ancient silhouettes, Orleans resonates with luminous shapes and a dynamic sense of scale. This neoclassic collection was inspired by the recent discovery of a first century A.D. Roman riverboat at the bottom of the Rhone in southern France. Sitting idle for centuries on the bed of this river in Arles, the magnificent barge contained a treasure trove of ancient ceramic and glass vessels, each piece a romantic representation of the principles of simplicity and symmetry. Simon Pearce craftsmen seek to capture the connections between ancient and modern with the Orleans Collection. Working in a flow of synchronized precision, glassblowers draw on their immense skill to maintain the deep optic by hand, manipulating the molten glass to preserve shape without throwing off the balance of the glass. The process is particularly complex, requiring a rare mastery of proportion to maintain a leveled surface. With its wide optic and soothing flares, each piece reveals a brilliant spectrum of light. Handmade in Simon Pearce's Vermont workshop, Orleans draws the eye with its magnetic style and graceful virtues.
